Speaker Bio
Dr. Abdennaceur Karoui is a research professor at Elizabeth City State University. He holds a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Physics. His research focuses on nanomaterials, materials for photovoltaics and infrared devices and energy management of UAVs powered with photovoltaic. Currently, he focuses on enhancing the infrared absorption of silicon to increase the efficiency of silicon solar cells. He has pioneered several areas of research in photovoltaics. Notably, he contributed at IMEC in Leuven (Belgium) in developing solar cell screen printing technology, which has been used across the industry. He has also achieved breakthroughs in controlling defects in nitrogen-doped silicon for microelectronics and has developed a novel type of chemical sensors operating at the quantum frontier.

Dr. Karoui led research groups specializing in materials research, including solar-grade semiconductor materials. He has also assumed departmental leadership roles and overseen research centers. Currently, he is the PI and Director of the Consortium for Nuclear Security Advanced Manufacturing enhanced by Machine Learning, a partnership with Sandia National Labs and Los Alamos National Lab.

Dr. Karoui has published 83 papers, over 96 conference papers (11 invited), 7 chapters, and technology disclosures. He is the guest editor for two journals.
