Gen. Trogdon brings more than 40 years of transportation and 36 years of military experience, building infrastructure in over 24 countries. He led the N.C. Department of Transportation recovery efforts during Hurricanes Florence and Michael, restoring 2,600 roadways and more than 200 miles of flooded interstates in just eight weeks. He also supported responses to Hurricanes Hugo, Fran, Floyd, Dennis and Irene. At NCDOT, Gen. Trogdon helped create the mobility fund, design the Strategic Transportation Investments Law and secure BUILD NC authorization, the state's largest transportation revenue bond. A U.S. Northern Command and FEMA-certified dual status commander, he led all Department of Defense resources for the 2012 Democratic National Convention, earning recognition for interagency coordination. In Iraq, he commanded engineer brigades during the 2006–07 surge, supporting Multi-National Division North. His units earned Presidential Unit Citations and Meritorious Unit Commendations for their impact on insurgent operations during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
