Bernard Jackson is chief operations officer at New York City Transit (MTA). He joined the agency after serving as senior executive vice president and COO at Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART), where he led bus, light and commuter rail, facilities maintenance, maintenance of way, paratransit and on demand mobility management. With more than 38 years in transit operations, Jackson has led efforts to boost employee engagement and customer satisfaction while meeting key performance goals. Before DART, Jackson held leadership roles at the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (L.A. Metro) L.A. Metro and spent 28 years at the Chicago Transit Authority, where he helped implement customer-focused performance measures. Jackson holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Loyola University Chicago. He is a member of APTA and COMTO and holds safety and leadership certifications from the TSA, Eno Center for Transportation, FEMA, USDOT’s Transportation Safety Institute and the FTA.
